Dakar trucks meet-up in Africa

Dakar truck elite led by MM Technology descends on Tunisia

The annual African mission of MM Technology has successfully come to an end. From May 23 to June 3, the Saharan desert transformed into an unofficial Dakar hub. Alongside the MM Technology line-up, Karel Posledni, Michal Valtr, and Richard de Groot trained hard on site, with Martin Soltys right next door, and Frantisek Brutovsky from Ming Racing Sports also participating in the tests. For the elite of the truck category, this was hands down the biggest joint camp of this spring.

Field data to breathe life into the MMT EVO5

The two weeks in the desert were crucial for MM Technology. The focus was on gathering field data and fine-tuning the details for the new evolution of Dakar trucks, designated as the MMT EVO5. Sand, high temperatures, and uncompromising terrain tested the machinery to near perfection.

Telemetry from the collected data revealed the areas that the engineers in Sedlcany will now primarily focus on during the development of the EVO5. This mainly concerns the chassis setup and shock absorber behavior under maximum load and in varying temperature conditions.

In parallel with the truck’s development, intensive tyre testing was carried out in cooperation with the general partner, Prometeon. The goal was to gain valuable insights for their further technological development directly in conditions that simulate the toughest rally stages.

“Tunisia testing is a tradition for us, but this year it had a real edge. When so many pilots gather in one place, it motivates everyone to push even harder. We found the limits, gathered a ton of data, and on top of that, other drivers, partners, and fans shared the experience with us right on location. We are looking forward to the start of the rally season!” says Martin Macik, pilot of the MM Technology factory team, looking back at the testing.

Taking turns behind the wheel of the MMT EVO4 truck

This year’s African camp was also marked by intensive test runs of the proven generation of the MMT truck. Michal Valtr, Karel Posledni, and Richard de Groot, among others, spent a lot of time in its cabin out in the dunes. The drivers thus got the opportunity to test the vehicle’s behavior in conditions corresponding to full racing loads.

MM Technology returns from Africa with a clear plan: the engineers in Sedlcany are immediately getting to work to turn the gathered data into reality. The road to the next Dakar success begins right now.
